Deputy Head of Communications

About the role

The Ministry of Innovation and National Development is looking for a Deputy Head of Communications to lead an integrated communications function. You will shape the Ministry’s public voice, translate policy into compelling narratives, and support senior officials in high‑visibility environments.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and lead an integrated communications strategy across PR, media, digital, events and stakeholder engagement.
• Translate complex policy initiatives into clear narratives for public, media and specialist audiences.
• Write speeches, remarks, talking points, briefing notes and opinion pieces for the Minister and senior officials.
• Prepare principals for interviews, panels and public appearances, ensuring message discipline.
• Serve as primary media contact, manage requests, press conferences and monitor coverage.
• Lead crisis and issues communications, preparing response protocols.
• Represent the Ministry at conferences, launches, town‑halls and community engagements.
• Design and manage engagement with key stakeholders, including government agencies.

Required profile

• Exceptional writing and communication skills, especially in speechwriting.
• Confidence to speak publicly on behalf of the Ministry.
• Experience working directly with ministers, senior government officials or executive leadership.
• Strategic judgement combined with hands‑on delivery in fast‑moving, high‑visibility settings.
