FSO Tax Manager - State and Local Tax (SALT)

About the role

EY is looking for tax managers focused on state and local tax to join its growing tax service delivery team in Freeport, Grand Bahamas. The Financial Services Office (FSO) tax practice serves the asset management industry, covering hedge funds, private equity funds and mutual funds, and you will work alongside experienced tax professionals on fund and organizational structuring, tax compliance and on-call advice.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate tax compliance and advisory work for clients, mainly state and local tax engagements aligned with their business objectives
• Manage tax compliance accounts for hedge funds and/or private equity funds
• Review securities analysis, make tax adjustments and sign off on the production and delivery of K-1s and partnership tax returns
• Review partnership agreements and private placement memorandums for tax implications of book and tax allocations, stuffing provisions, management and incentive fees
• Run day-to-day account activities spread across various locations

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a business discipline with at least 5 years of relevant tax experience, or an advanced degree in tax or law with at least 4 years
• CPA or Enrolled Agent certification is required
• Ideal: experience serving clients in the wealth and asset management industry (mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity funds)
• Ideal: broad exposure to federal income tax and exposure to state and local tax

Required skills

• Strong technical knowledge of asset management tax
• Ability to analyse trading reports for tax character and book tax differences such as wash sales, constructive sales and straddles
• Ability to mentor and assist with firm in-house trainings
• Ability to identify key tax technical issues and raise questions before work goes to partners or senior managers
• Managing multiple work assignments and deadlines
