Senior Tax Specialist - State and Local Tax (FSO)

About the role

EY's Financial Services (FSO) tax practice serves the asset management industry, covering hedge funds, private equity funds and mutual funds. It is looking for tax seniors focused on state and local tax to join its tax service delivery team in Freeport, Grand Bahamas. You will work with managers through partners on client issues, implementing tax strategies aligned with business objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Tax compliance and advisory work for clients, working with managers through partners on state and local tax engagements
• Implement tax strategies that align with the client's business objectives
• Work on tax compliance accounts for hedge funds, mutual funds and/or private equity funds
• Analyse trading reports for tax character and book tax differences such as wash sales, constructive sales, straddles and other securities issues
• Identify key tax technical issues and raise questions before work goes to the partner or senior manager, consulting when necessary
• Manage multiple work assignments and deadlines

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a business discipline, and/or an advanced degree in tax or law
• At least 18 months of recent relevant tax experience
• Preferred: CPA (or equivalent internationally recognized accounting designation), Enrolled Agent and/or LLM certification; non-certified and partially-certified hires must become certified before promotion to manager
• Ideal: experience serving clients in the wealth and asset management industry, and broad exposure to federal income tax and state and local tax

Required skills

• Solid technical knowledge, ideally in asset management tax
• Ability to analyse trading reports for tax character and book tax differences
• Strong communication skills and ability to prioritise across multiple clients and engagement teams
