System Planning Manager

About the role

The System Planning Manager leads the system planning function for Bahamas Grid Company's transmission and distribution network. Reporting to the VP of Engineering & Planning, the role provides both technical and managerial leadership to develop long‑ and short‑term plans, load forecasts, capacity analyses, and grid‑modernisation strategies that ensure reliable, safe, and future‑proof power delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain long‑term and short‑term load forecasts for system, feeder, and substation planning.
• Identify capacity constraints, aging infrastructure, and reliability concerns across the grid.
• Prepare System Expansion Plans and other long‑range planning documents.
• Lead power system studies including load flow, short‑circuit, voltage, reliability, and N‑1/N‑2 contingency analyses.
• Review technical studies, models, and reports for quality, accuracy, and alignment with company objectives.
• Recommend and justify capital projects such as new substations, feeder upgrades, and transmission enhancements.
• Support annual and multi‑year capital budgeting based on planning needs.
• Provide planning expertise during outages, storm preparation, restoration, and other critical events.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading system planning for transmission and distribution networks.
• Strong technical background in power system engineering and grid modernization.
• Demonstrated ability to translate technical studies into actionable expansion strategies and investment recommendations.
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with operations, asset management, finance, regulatory affairs, and external stakeholders.
