Communications & Lab Services Manager

About the role

The Communications & Lab Services Manager will lead the operation and maintenance of communication and timing systems for the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) on Andros Island, Bahamas. This role oversees the Message Center, Technical Lab, and Communications departments, ensuring compliance with Navy instructions and supporting critical undersea test and training missions.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee operation and maintenance of complex communication, timing, and radio systems, including satellite, microwave, and land mobile radio.
• Manage the Naval Message Center, ensuring adherence to Navy directives.
• Support and maintain the AUTEC PBX phone system and base cable TV system.
• Plan and execute installations, upgrades, and service restoration processes.
• Create and maintain budgets and financial records for the department.
• Lead a team of Bahamas‑based and U.S. engineers/technicians, providing guidance and performance oversight.
• Travel to other locations as needed, typically no more than once every two months.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support AUTEC mission objectives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of experience with communication and timing technologies.
• 5+ years of supervisory or management experience.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government clearance.
• Valid driver’s license and passport.
• Willingness to reside in a remote location with limited medical facilities.
• Strong safety mindset and excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Teams, Excel).
• CompTIA Security+ CE or DoD 8570 certification preferred.
