Deputy Head (Academic)

About the role

Inspired Education is recruiting a Deputy Head (Academic) for King's College School, The Bahamas, a new school opened in August 2022 and part of the Inspired Education group. Starting in August 2027, the Deputy Head will be a key strategic adviser to the Founding Principal, working with the Head of Junior School on curriculum, teaching and learning, CPD and student tracking, and overseeing academic life in Years 7 to 13. The role includes line management of department heads and academic staff, and comes with 50% timetable relief.

Key responsibilities

• Foster a culture of academic excellence and intellectual curiosity among students and staff
• Oversight and delivery of a rigorous, aspirational academic curriculum and lead the approach to teaching and learning, including the integration of educational technology
• Oversee CPD for academic staff and the associated budgets
• Oversee student tracking and ensure data is used to improve teaching and learning
• Oversee academic reporting through iSAMS and lead the academic strands of the School Development Plan
• Keep the school inspection-ready at all times
• Provide academic provision for Years 7 to 13 and develop an annual academic timetable, anticipating future staffing needs
• Administer internal and external examinations and submit data to external bodies
• Work with the Founding Principal on selecting and appointing academic staff and assist Admissions with student selection
• Line manage Heads of Department, the Head of Academic Support, the Director of Studies, the Exams Officer and the Head of University Counselling, and collaborate with the Head of Sixth Form on Years 12 and 13
• Develop a broad super-curricular programme

Required profile

• PGCE, QTS or equivalent, with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree from a recognised university
• Significant experience of academic leadership in a high-performing independent or international school
• IGCSE/GCSE and A Level teaching experience in a subject offered at the school
• Experience of strategic development and managing change at whole-school level
• Resilience and drive to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding environment
