Irrigation Technician

About the role

The Irrigation Technician is responsible for operating and maintaining all irrigation and drainage systems on MSC's Ocean Cay island reserve. The position is based on‑site with staff accommodation provided, ensuring the island’s lawns, palms, and flower beds receive proper water care.

Key responsibilities

• Water lawns, palms, flower beds and other areas as scheduled.
• Monitor daily water usage and adjust system settings in coordination with the Maintenance Engineer.
• Operate irrigation heads in dry zones and design, implement, and maintain mechanical and electrical components of the system.
• Repair irrigation pipes, heads, valves and perform preventive maintenance on all related equipment.
• Maintain complete maintenance records, control expenses, and manage inventory of parts.
• Record weather, rainfall, fertilizer and pesticide applications, and generate daily water usage reports.
• Assist with pesticide and fertilizer applications under supervision.
• Operate dump trucks and light equipment for material handling and debris removal.
• Occasionally supervise crews for special projects and perform other tasks as assigned.

Required profile

• Fluent in English (verbal and written); additional languages are a plus.
• High School diploma or GED.
• Experience with landscaping or golf‑course grounds crews, specifically with irrigation systems.
• Ability to work in a diverse, remote team environment and live on a remote island in the Bahamas.

Required skills

• Basic electricity and hydraulics knowledge for irrigation systems.
• Familiarity with automatic valves, controllers, and various pump types.
• Experience with Rainbird irrigation systems (preferred).
• Understanding of turf‑grass management and general horticulture principles.
• Pump station operation, maintenance, and repair.
• Use of tools, methods, and materials for grounds maintenance.
• Operation of irrigation pumps, sprayers, drip‑irrigation systems, and dump trucks.
• Ability to respond to emergency situations related to irrigation equipment.
