Marine Electrician

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Marine Electrician to support the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) on Andros Island, Bahamas. This shore‑based position involves maintaining, repairing and installing electrical equipment on AUTEC vessels and deck support gear while ensuring compliance with U.S. government security requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Install new cabling and electrical systems aboard ships, including power distribution, control, lighting, heating, ventilation, alarm and navigation lighting.
• Troubleshoot, repair and maintain diesel generators, voltage regulators, electric motors, switchboards and low‑voltage DC alarm and lighting systems.
• Operate from the Marine Electric Shop, manage inventory, order and receive materials, and keep accurate records.
• Supervise an indigenous electrical helper, assign tasks and ensure timely, standards‑compliant completion.

Required profile

• High school diploma plus trade school graduation, 10 years military service, or commercial shipboard experience as Chief Electrician or Shipyard Electrician.
• Minimum five years of relevant marine electrical experience, including familiarity with ship‑based power generation, distribution and marine electronics.
• U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government clearance.
• Valid passport and driver’s license; willingness to reside in a remote location with limited medical facilities.

Required skills

• Expertise with 3‑phase power systems (480 VAC, 220 VAC, 115 VAC) and low‑voltage DC (24 V, 12 V) control circuits.
• Proficiency in installing, testing and repairing marine electrical equipment, including diesel generators, voltage regulators, electric motors and switchboards.
• Ability to use test equipment such as Meggers, volt‑ohm meters and other diagnostic tools.
• Knowledge of marine electronics such as radar, navigation controls and alarm management systems.
