Carpenter

About the role

The Carpenter joins the deck crew on a Norwegian Cruise Line vessel, performing a wide range of installation, repair and maintenance tasks for fixtures, furnishings and equipment. Reporting to the Staff Captain, the role also supports entertainment set construction and trains junior deck ratings.

Key responsibilities

• Install, troubleshoot, repair and maintain wood and metal structures, fixtures and equipment aboard ship.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals, work orders, blueprints and diagrams to plan and execute projects.
• Perform cutting, shaping, assembling and fastening using hand and power tools, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.
• Conduct preventive maintenance, inspect structures for damage, and replace defective parts.
• Document work performed and provide progress reports as required.

Required profile

• Minimum 1 year experience as a carpenter or 2 years as an assistant/apprentice carpenter.
• High school diploma or equivalent and STCW certification.
• Ability to work in a multicultural environment and adapt to changing schedules.
• Intermediate to advanced English communication skills.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand tools and power tools.
• Blueprint and diagram interpretation.
• Measuring, cutting, shaping and assembling wood and metal components.
• Knowledge of safety and environmental protection policies.
