Island Environmental Steward - Bahamas

About the role

The Island Environmental Steward assists with receiving, processing and disposing of all general, recyclable and hazardous waste on Disney's private island in the Bahamas. The role covers operating and maintaining waste management equipment, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and supporting waste diversion goals. It reports to the Environmental Manager and is based on the island.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, process, store and transfer waste and recyclables on the island
• Monitor the company waste management policy and ensure waste handling follows USDA, RCRA and Bahamian environmental laws
• Operate and clean waste-related equipment and facilities, and keep waste handling areas clean and well stored
• Prepare hazardous and oily waste for transfer according to DOT and RCRA regulations, and provide weights or volumes of recyclables, waste and incinerated material to the Environmental Manager
• Complete a weekly inventory of consumables used in waste handling areas
• Monitor pest activity in waste areas and report findings, and verify equipment is in good condition
• Oversee incinerator feeding and ensure prohibited items are not fed into them
• Help meet waste diversion goals, propose improvements to waste management and recycling, and promote the island's environmentality programs
• Follow the SMS and LOGs, including safety and environmental policy, and carry out emergency duties as specified in the ship assembly plan

Required profile

• Minimum of one to two years' experience in environmental management or a related field
• High school diploma
• Knowledge of hazardous materials and of safety and environmental practices
• Interested in working on a private island in the Bahamas and legally authorized to work there
• Comfortable living in a confined space with strict rules, in a multi-cultural environment, and adhering to a structured lifestyle
• Willingness to follow safety roles, emergency duties and environmentality requirements; must pass a criminal background check and drug/alcohol testing
