Chief Engineer – Luxury Caribbean Resort

About the role

The resort is seeking a highly skilled, hands‑on Chief Engineer to lead all engineering and maintenance activities for a large, all‑inclusive luxury property in the Caribbean. You will be responsible for the reliable operation of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems across more than 500 rooms, multiple food & beverage outlets, and extensive recreational facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee the repair, operation, and preventive maintenance of the resort’s physical plant and engineering facilities.
• Maintain HVAC, ventilation, refrigeration, chilled water, plumbing, and electrical power distribution systems.
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance programmes for all equipment.
• Supervise a team of 50+ maintenance staff and contract workers.
• Liaise with external contractors, write technical specifications, and ensure compliance with local regulations.
• Manage departmental budgeting, cost control, and coordination with the accounting department.

Required profile

• 6‑8 years of experience as a Chief Engineer in a large island resort or hotel with a central plant and Building Management System.
• Strong leadership with a willingness to work hands‑on when needed.
• Proven ability to manage large teams and oversee complex engineering projects.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and job costing using Excel.
