Head of Compliance & Money Laundering Reporting Officer

About the role

The Head of Compliance & MLRO will lead the regulatory compliance and anti‑money‑laundering (AML) function for a licensed securities brokerage. Reporting to senior management, this role ensures the firm meets all Bahamian financial‑services regulations and international AML/CFT standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve the company’s compliance framework in line with the Securities Commission of The Bahamas and the Financial Intelligence Unit.
• Act as the registered Compliance Officer and the firm’s designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO), handling internal suspicious activity disclosures and filing Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) when required.
• Oversee AML/CFT programs, including client onboarding, transaction monitoring, sanctions screening and reporting under the Financial Transactions Reporting Act and related regulations.
• Identify, investigate and escalate financial‑crime risks such as fraud, bribery, corruption and sanctions evasion, tailoring risk assessments to securities‑brokerage typologies.
• Design and maintain internal control systems, monitor policy effectiveness, and ensure regular updates on regulatory changes.
• Provide training and guidance to staff on compliance procedures and maintain alignment across all departments.
• Report compliance performance, regulatory developments and mitigation actions to the executive team and Board of Directors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Economics, Business or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of compliance or regulatory experience in financial services, preferably within capital markets or securities brokerage.
• Demonstrated expertise in financial‑crime prevention, AML/CFT frameworks and sanctions compliance.
