Environmental Services Associate – Hospital

About the role

The Environmental Services Associate is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary and safe environment across hospital facilities. The role involves routine cleaning, waste and linen management, floor care, and strict adherence to infection‑control protocols while supporting multiple sites within the Doctors Hospital Health System.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning tasks such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming and sanitizing patient rooms, nursing stations, surgical suites and public areas.
• Collect, transport and dispose of regular and medical waste in compliance with hospital policies and regulations.
• Handle soiled linens, distribute clean linens and monitor linen inventory.
• Execute floor care duties including sweeping, mopping, buffing and reporting any flooring issues.
• Follow infection‑control procedures, use appropriate PPE and ensure proper disinfection of patient care areas.
• Maintain and clean environmental services equipment (floor machines, vacuums) and report malfunctions.
• Collaborate with nursing staff, maintenance personnel and other hospital employees to address cleaning needs and special requests.
• Provide courteous customer service to patients, visitors and staff, and support multiple hospital sites as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in environmental services, housekeeping or janitorial work, preferably in a healthcare setting.
• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation principles and infection‑control practices.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, especially regarding safety protocols and chemical use.
• Strong attention to detail, physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects and stand for long periods.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with patients, visitors and staff.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, and travel between hospital sites.

Required skills

• Handling of cleaning chemicals and adherence to MSDS protocols.
• Operation of floor machines, vacuums and other mechanized cleaning equipment.
