Explosive Safety Specialist

About the role

Amentum is looking for an Explosive Safety Specialist to support the AUTEC mission on Andros Island, Bahamas. The role involves developing, implementing and managing the company's explosive safety program in accordance with U.S. Navy standards. The specialist will work both independently and as part of a close‑knit team to ensure safe handling of ordnance and compliance with all relevant regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement, promote and manage the company explosive safety program for the AUTEC project.
• Provide oversight of explosive safety programs in line with U.S. Navy manuals, instructions and operating procedures.
• Oversee the weapons handling qualifications program and act as Safety Observer during weapons on‑ and off‑load.
• Conduct routine ammunition magazine, grounding and bonding inspections to ensure compliance with Navy facility requirements.
• Assist the U.S. Navy Explosive Safety Officer and ES&H department in accident/incident investigations and near‑miss reporting.
• Support facility inspections on Andros Island and in Florida, recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety‑related training (Lockout/Tagout, CPR, First Aid, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, Construction Site Safety, Blood‑borne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Asbestos Awareness).
• Coordinate external agency safety, environmental and explosive inspections.
• Review and evaluate revised safety regulations, instructions, procedures, guidelines and standards.
• Maintain documentation for ES&H and explosive safety programs, including review of modification drawings and equipment tooling.
• Assist in the planning and execution of special safety drives or campaigns.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and eligibility to obtain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance.
• Ability to work independently under general supervision.
• Willingness to work non‑routine business hours to support mission requirements.

Required skills

• Knowledge of U.S. Navy Explosive Safety manuals and procedures.
• Ammunition magazine inspection and grounding/bonding inspection expertise.
• Experience with weapons handling qualifications and safety observation.
• Accident/incident and near‑miss investigation skills.
• Facility inspection and hazard identification capabilities.
• Development and delivery of safety training (Lockout/Tagout, CPR, First Aid, Electrical Safety, Fall Protection, Confined Space Entry, Construction Site Safety, Blood‑borne Pathogens, Hazard Communication, Respiratory Protection, Asbestos Awareness).
• Documentation management for safety programs and equipment modifications.
