Head Cook

About the role

Sandyport Beach Resort, a boutique resort in the Marina Village of Nassau, Bahamas, is looking for a full-time, on-site Head Cook. The role leads daily kitchen operations to support the resort's high hospitality standards, planning menus, preparing and cooking meals to resort quality and supervising kitchen staff.

Key responsibilities

• Plan menus and prepare and cook meals to resort quality standards, with consistent presentation and portion control.
• Supervise kitchen staff, organize workstations and coordinate food preparation to meet service timelines for breakfast, lunch, dinner and special events.
• Manage inventory, oversee ordering and storage of ingredients and monitor food costs while minimizing waste.
• Maintain strict food safety and sanitation practices and collaborate with resort leadership on guest experience initiatives.
• Respond to special dietary needs and guest feedback.

Required profile

• Strong culinary skills, with proven experience in menu planning, food preparation and high-volume cooking in a hotel, resort or restaurant setting.
• Experience supervising kitchen staff, delegating tasks, training team members and fostering a respectful, collaborative environment.
• Knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation procedures and proper storage practices.
• Ability to manage inventory, control food and labor costs and work within budget and sustainability guidelines.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills, and strong communication with front-of-house teams, management and vendors.
• Formal culinary training, certification or equivalent practical experience; food handling or safety certification is an advantage.
• Flexibility to work varying shifts, including weekends and holidays, and to support special events and peak periods.
• Caribbean or coastal cuisine experience and an interest in local ingredients is highly beneficial.
