Mate – Cruise Ship (Half Moon Cay, Bahamas)

About the role

The Mate supports the Captain in docking, navigation and daily vessel operations aboard a Carnival cruise ship calling at Half Moon Cay, Bahamas. This role ensures a clean, safe and comfortable environment for passengers and crew while upholding all safety and operational standards.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Captain with docking and navigational duties.
• Man gangways during boarding and disembarking, monitor passenger movement on deck and in cabins.
• Provide crowd control, assist handicapped guests and secure mobility devices.
• Enforce safety procedures, wear required safety gear and participate in crew drills.
• Maintain cleanliness of cabins, heads, decks, hull, and all public areas.
• Perform specialized equipment upkeep, including crane operation, anchor and bow equipment maintenance, and top‑deck servicing.
• Assist engineering staff with machinery greasing and routine inspections.
• Ensure all operational equipment is functional and properly documented.

Required profile

• High School diploma or GED; additional hospitality education is a plus.
• Valid STCW 95 certification.
• Ability to follow maritime laws, safety regulations and emergency protocols.
• Strong problem‑solving, communication and teamwork skills.
• Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
