Director, Transmission & Distribution Operations

About the role

Bahamas Grid Company is looking for a Director, Transmission & Distribution Operations to lead its day-to-day field operations, maintenance, construction and outage restoration. Reporting to the VP, Transmission & Distribution Operations, the Director turns operational strategy into coordinated work programs that deliver safe work, reliable service and efficient use of people, equipment and materials. The role works closely with Systems Operations, Engineering & Planning, Asset Management, Project Management, Safety, Procurement, Finance and Customer Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Implement operational plans set with the VP, define work programs and delivery targets, and direct managers, supervisors and field teams across planned and reactive work
• Oversee construction, inspection, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground networks, transmission lines and substation field activities, ensuring work follows approved designs and standards
• Deliver preventive and corrective maintenance programs, prioritise work with Asset Management and Engineering, and track backlogs, repeat failures and reliability trends such as SAIDI, SAIFI and CAIDI
• Enforce safe work practices, permit requirements, isolation procedures and PPE, conduct field reviews, and lead incident investigations
• Maintain field readiness for storms and emergencies, lead restoration within the emergency command structure, and provide damage and repair progress updates to the Control Room
• Manage operational budgets, overtime and contractor costs, monitor contractor performance, and coach managers and supervisors on performance and training
• Partner with Engineering and Project Management on capital delivery, outage windows and commissioning handover

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Utility Management or a related discipline
• Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in electric utility transmission and distribution operations, including field work, maintenance, construction and restoration
• Minimum five years of leadership experience managing operational teams, supervisors, managers or contractors in an electric utility environment
• Hands-on knowledge of overhead and underground distribution, transmission maintenance, substation field activities and safe switching coordination
• Availability for extended hours, nights, weekends, public holidays and storm response, plus regular travel to sites; a valid driver's licence is required
