VP, Transmission & Distribution Operations

About the role

Bahamas Grid Company is looking for a Vice President, Transmission & Distribution Operations to provide strategic leadership and executive oversight of its transmission and distribution network. The role covers system operations, field operations, maintenance, construction, outage restoration, asset management and operational readiness, and sits within the Executive Leadership Team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership for transmission and distribution operations, advise the COO on risks, performance and capital priorities, and set departmental goals and performance measures.
• Oversee construction, maintenance, operation and restoration of assets, and direct outage restoration and emergency response.
• Monitor reliability, productivity, safety and cost metrics, and ensure readiness of personnel, equipment and materials.
• Lead field operations including line crews, substation teams, switching operations and construction, and oversee storm response and system recovery.
• Champion a strong safety culture, ensure regulatory and environmental compliance, and oversee incident investigations.
• Develop operational managers, supervisors and field personnel, and support training, technical development and succession planning.
• Partner with Engineering, Project Management, Procurement and Finance on capital programs, and engage with regulators, contractors and government stakeholders.
• Manage operational budgets, track reliability metrics such as SAIDI, SAIFI and CAIDI, and report performance to the Executive Leadership Team.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, Utility Management or a related field.
• Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in electric utility transmission and distribution operations.
• Minimum 7-10 years in a senior leadership role overseeing T&D systems, field operations, construction, maintenance and outage restoration.
• Proven experience leading field operations teams including line crews, supervisors, contractors and operational managers.
• Combination of office and field work, regular site visits, a valid driver's licence, and possible extended hours during emergencies.

Required skills

• Knowledge of utility safety standards, regulatory compliance and industry best practices.
• Deep understanding of reliability metrics (SAIDI, SAIFI, CAIDI) and system performance improvement.
• Experience managing large-scale utility infrastructure and grid operations.
