Senior Accountant

About the role

SMG Construction & Millwork, a Bahamian construction and millwork firm founded in 2001, is hiring a Senior Accountant to join its team in Nassau. The role supports the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Department, oversees accounting operations, ensures accurate financial reporting, manages project and job costing and maintains compliance with financial regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the CFO with the day-to-day operations of the Accounts Department.
• Process weekly payroll.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately.
• Prepare and maintain labor cost reports for all active construction projects for weekly circulation.
• Perform bank account reconciliations and investigate variances.
• Prepare monthly VAT worksheets for VAT filing.
• Review vendor payments and subcontractor invoices before payment.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; professional certifications are highly beneficial.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
• Experience in budgeting, forecasting, cost accounting and project-based financial analysis, ideally in construction or related industries.
