Staff Accountant

About the role

The Fitness Connection Bahamas, a retailer of sports nutrition, wellness supplements, activewear and fitness equipment founded in 2011, is hiring a Staff Accountant in Freeport. The role supports the financial health and day-to-day operations of the business, combining accounting with inventory control, and reports to the Regional Manager. It offers a clear path toward advanced financial planning, compliance and leadership as the company grows.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain financial records (VAT documents, income statements, P&L, COGS)
• Reconcile cash and card sales daily, and prepare financial reports and cash flow analyses for budgeting and forecasting
• Enter and reconcile vendor invoices and purchase orders in QuickBooks Online and Shopify
• Review and organize monthly transfer invoices for VAT filing, and analyze product performance and cost/price trends
• Process payroll, keep detailed payroll records, and pay monthly NIB contributions by the 15th
• Manage accounts payable (vendors, freight and customs brokers, utilities, brand ambassadors, weekly mailboat transfers) and petty cash reimbursements
• Prepare and file quarterly VAT reports, and prepare documentation for audits
• Verify bank deposits, reconcile bank statements with daily deposit logs, and match supplier invoices to goods received

Required profile

• Associate's or bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field, or equivalent education and experience
• 2+ years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping or inventory/cost accounting
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, cost analysis and bank/cash reconciliation
• Working knowledge of Bahamian VAT and NIB requirements
• High accuracy, attention to detail and clear written and verbal communication
