Assistant Accountant – Finance Department

About the role

The Finance Department of SOL Petroleum Bahamas Limited is seeking an Assistant Accountant to support both accounts payable and receivable functions. The role involves daily interaction with internal teams and external vendors, ensuring accurate financial processing and compliance with company policies.

Key responsibilities

• Review payment requests and account coding for completeness and accuracy.
• Prepare and process payment vouchers, supporting vendor invoices and related documentation.
• Collect and apply customer receipts, record cash receipts in the ERP system, and ensure daily bank deposits.
• Assist in creating debit and credit memos, monthly bank reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
• Prepare monthly tax returns (GST, Business Tax, Contract Tax, duties) and liaise with brokers for customs entries.
• Reconcile assigned balance‑sheet accounts and provide accounting assistance to team members.
• Manage the computer room, telephone system, and coordinate with the IT Manager.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting or Finance.
• 2‑3 years of relevant accounting experience.
• Clear and persuasive communication skills, strong problem‑solving ability, and customer‑service orientation.
• Ability to handle difficult situations promptly via email or phone.
• Team‑oriented yet capable of working independently under pressure.

Required skills

• Microsoft Excel (intermediate to expert level).
• Microsoft Word.
• Microsoft PowerPoint.
• MS Dynamics Great Plains (a plus).
