Scuba Educator (2026-2027)

About the role

The Island School, a not-for-profit educational community in Eleuthera, The Bahamas, is looking for a Scuba Educator for the 2026-2027 period. The educator plans, leads and supports scuba programmes across the Semester and Summer Term, Deep Creek Middle School and Partnership Programs, following PADI standards and linking them to students' other coursework. The role works closely with the Scuba Manager.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver scuba programming to students in the Semester and Summer Term, Middle School and Partnership Programs, in collaboration with education leaders
• Certify students, including PADI Open Water for Semester and Summer students, Grade 9 Middle School students, the Young Leadership Program and visiting schools
• Manage the Island School PADI e-learning system: send e-learning codes, check completion, process certifications and support students
• Create interdisciplinary links between scuba diving and student learning outcomes
• Help run daily dive operations, including lifting tanks, carrying heavy gear and working long hours in tropical conditions
• Inspect, repair and service regulators, BCDs, cylinders and compressors to manufacturer standards
• Maintain risk management of scuba activities and contribute to campus chores, the farm, wet lab and dish crew

Required profile

• Current PADI Scuba Instructor certification
• Captain's license, minimum RYA Powerboat Level 2
• Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification
• Experience in an active dive operation and operating boats of various sizes
• Knowledge of tropical marine ecosystems
• Desirable: recognized equipment service technician certification, experience inspecting cylinders, and a can-do attitude in a remote, sustainable campus community
