Environmental Services Associate - Grand Bahama

About the role

The Environmental Services Associate keeps hospital facilities clean, sanitary and safe, carrying out cleaning and housekeeping duties that meet cleanliness and infection control standards. The role works closely with nursing staff and other hospital teams, and supports multiple hospital sites across The Bahamas.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning such as dusting, mopping, vacuuming and sanitizing patient rooms, nursing stations, surgical suites, waiting areas and offices, following infection control guidelines.
• Collect, transport and dispose of regular and medical waste in line with hospital policy and regulations, keeping containers properly labelled and sealed.
• Handle soiled linens, distribute clean linens and report shortages to the Environmental Services Supervisor.
• Clean floors, sweep, mop and buff them, and report flooring or carpeting issues.
• Follow infection control procedures, use PPE and safety protocols, and maintain and clean cleaning equipment.
• Work with the Environmental Services team, nursing staff and maintenance personnel, and provide friendly service to patients, visitors and staff.
• Travel flexibly between hospital sites in The Bahamas and work weekends and holidays.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous environmental services, housekeeping or janitorial experience, preferably in a healthcare setting, is preferred.
• Physical stamina to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods and work at a rapid pace.
• Willingness to work flexible hours and travel to different sites.

Required skills

• Knowledge of cleaning techniques, sanitation and infection control (highly desirable).
• Understanding of written and verbal instructions on cleaning procedures, safety and chemical use.
• Ability to operate manual and automatic vehicles and power equipment, or be trained to do so.
• Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and MSDS protocol.
