Freight Operations Manager

About the role

The Freight Operations Manager leads the Freight Department, ensuring safe, efficient, and profitable freight operations across all Bahamas Ferries services. This role oversees personnel, warehouse activities, cargo movement, customer service, and administrative processes while maintaining compliance with company standards.

Key responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and accountability for the Freight Department, setting operational goals and performance standards.
• Manage staffing levels, scheduling, overtime, attendance, and workforce productivity; conduct coaching, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
• Oversee receiving, inspection, storage, staging, loading, unloading, and distribution of freight, ensuring accurate documentation and alignment with vessel schedules.
• Monitor cargo flow to maximize warehouse efficiency and vessel utilization, handling all freight categories including oversized and heavy equipment.
• Maintain security of warehouses and cargo storage areas, enforcing access controls, key management, alarm and surveillance systems.
• Investigate and report security breaches, cargo discrepancies, theft, damage, or unauthorized access.
• Coordinate facility upkeep, housekeeping, repairs, improvements, and preventative maintenance.
• Develop and implement process improvements to increase operational efficiency and compliance.

Required profile

• Proven leadership experience in freight, warehouse, or logistics operations.
• Strong ability to manage large, diverse teams and drive a culture of accountability, safety, and customer service excellence.
• Experience ensuring operational efficiency, profitability, and compliance with company standards.
• Capability to handle security oversight and incident investigation within a freight environment.
