Wellness Center Coordinator (Paramedic/WEMT/EMT)

About the role

The Island School, a not-for-profit in Eleuthera, Bahamas, is looking for an experienced Paramedic, WEMT or EMT to join its onsite medical team. The role provides first aid, urgent and emergency care to students, staff and the wider community, and helps coordinate transport of injured or sick people to definitive care. It also supports the expedition gear program and works with the Wellness Team.

Key responsibilities

• Work with a small medical team (Paramedic/RN, EMT, WFR and WAFA-trained faculty) to manage the health and safety of students, staff and activities
• Respond to emergencies on campus and during off-campus activities, leading response, patient care and evacuation
• Provide daily first aid, urgent and emergent care, and document and report patient conditions and treatments
• Liaise with parents and stakeholders about students' medical conditions and treatment
• Review pre-trip medical forms and meet with parents/guardians, and coordinate with telemedicine and local clinics
• Educate the community on safety and health, and help run annual wilderness medicine courses
• Maintain the medical room, equipment and supplies, and check the ambulance every two weeks
• Take part in an on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies, and work evening and weekend shifts
• In the semester and summer terms, oversee expedition gear inventory and repairs, and support risk management (incident reporting)

Required profile

• Current licensure as a Paramedic, EMT-A, EMT-B and/or WEMT registered with the Bahamas Health Professions Council (or registration before starting)
• BLS certification; ACLS, PALS, MHFA/YMHFA, CPR/First Aid instructor, lifeguarding, WFR and/or WAFA preferred
• Experience in a remote or wilderness setting preferred; prior experience with adolescents is a plus
• Team collaboration and leadership experience, and knowledge of dive and sports medicine
• Proficiency in English and good written and verbal communication with parents and staff
• General proficiency in Google Suite and databases
