Unexploded Ordnance Technician II

About the role

Bering-Alaka`ina Holdings, LLC is seeking an Unexploded Ordnance Technician II to support the Atlantic Undersea Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) mission in Andros Island, Bahamas. AUTEC is a Major Range and Test Facility Base and the largest single team project of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center, Division Newport, providing deep and shallow water test and training environments. The technician handles, prepares, performs post-run checks and transports exercise torpedoes and associated equipment in line with NAVAIR/NAVSEA/NAVFAC guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair on exercise torpedoes (MK-46/MK-50 REXTORPs, MK-48, MOD 4, 5, 6, 7, MK-46, 54 EXTORPs) and associated equipment per NAVAIR/NAVSEA guidelines.
• Operate tractor-trailers, forklifts and overhead cranes per NAVFAC guidelines, and perform rigging of heavy equipment.
• Handle, package and transport hazardous ordnance material up to 1.1 lb per NAVORD standards.
• Operate the torpedo data extraction computer per NAVSEA standards and maintain the breathing air system used in torpedo operations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance (US citizenship is required to obtain a Secret clearance).
• AS/AA degree or equivalent; valid driver's license and passport required.
• One or more years of certification in forklift, tractor-trailer and overhead crane operations.
• Two or more years of related experience in a torpedo shop environment.
• Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds, wear 30 pounds of equipment regularly, and work in a controlled environment with temperatures exceeding 100 degrees F in a hazmat suit and breathing apparatus.
• Must be able to reside in a remote location with limited medical facilities and pass an annual physical.

Required skills

• Preferred: one year of electronics technology experience or local certification in REXTORP prep and weapon data extractions.
• Preferred: Naval ordnance certification, NAVOSH/OSHA respirator certification, annual CPR/First Aid training, NAVSEA/NAVAIR torpedo certification, NAVFAC CAT III crane certification, and U.S. Navy Basic and Advanced Underwater Torpedo School.
• Good computer skills with Microsoft Word emphasized.
